Menu: Has a large organic salad bar with over 100 dishes including
vegan desserts. Has a vegan Sunday brunch that includes Tofu Eggs, French
toast, pancakes, mock sausage and bacon, fresh fruits and waffles. Has
a good selection of mock vegetarian meat dishes. All-you-can-eat salad
bar is included with the meal for dinner. Home-made soups, a wide selection
of sandwiches, Miso Soup, Gluten Diablo, Jamaican Jerk Tofu, stuffed
grape leaves, Tempeh Parmigiana (soy cheese), Tempeh Steak, Shepherd's
Pie, Chili, hummus, mashed potatoes with very good brown vegan tofu
gravy, Grilled Portobello Mushroom, falafels, Tofu Tacos, Garlic Sesame
Tofu, Buffalo Wings, Veggie "Meat" Loaf and tahini dressings.
Singing Cowboy is a fried gluten steak with cornbread, mashed potatoes
and vegan gravy. Hungarian-style Pierogis is sautéed strips of
seitan in vegan gravy. Thanksgiving dinner with tofu turkey, mashed
potatoes, stuffing, Tofu Lasagna, yams and vegan gravy. Good vegan desserts
such as Tofu Cheesecake. Fresh juices and smoothies.
Comments: Gets really high recommendations. Mostly organic. Live
music (a guitarist) on Friday and Saturday nights. Complimentary salad
bar with any entrée. Pleasant atmosphere. Reasonably priced.
The Web site has the entire menu. The Sunday brunch is really good.
Definitely worth checking this place out.
Reviews: Veggie Works Vegetarian Restaurant was nominated for
the 1996 Vegetarian Times Reader's Choice Award. "Acknowledged
by Vegetarian Times Magazine as one of the best restaurants of its kind
in the Nation."
The New York Times Restaurant Critic Joe Brescia says about Veggie Works,
"Vegetables work their magic on a meat lover. A dieter's or vegetarian's
delight. The food was delicious. Veggie Works homemade wheat bread served
