This place was also Prabodhananda Sarasvati’s
bhajana kutir. On Lord Caitanya’s South Indian tour He stayed
in Sri Rangam during Caturmasya. He stayed in the house of three brothers:
Venkata (the father of Gopala Bhatta Gosvami), Tirumala and Gopala
Guru (Prabodhananda Sarasvati). They were all Sri Vaishnavas, followers
of Ramanujacarya and devotees of Laksmi Narayana. They were the chief
pujaris of Sri Ranganatha of the Ranganatha Temple in Sri Rangam.
Lord Caitanya explained to them the superiority of worshiping Krishna.
At this time Gopala Guru (Prabodhananda Sarasvati) and the son of
Venkata, Gopala, became attracted to the Lord Caitanya. Prabodhananda
Sarasvati instructed Gopala Bhatta in his youth.
Prabodhananda Sarasvati became a great follower of Sri
Caitanya. He left Sri Rangam and went to Vrindavana. His nephew Gopala
Bhatta Gosvami, not very long after he left, also came to Vrindavana.
He wrote Vrindavana-Mahimamrita, which is a glorification of Vrindavana.
In Gaura Ganoddesa Dipika (verse 163) he is said to
be one of the important gopis, Tungavidya-devi. His samadhi is located
right off the Vrindavana parikrama path, very near Kaliya Ghata. This
place used to be next to the bank of the Yamuna.
How To Get Here To get here, you first
go to Kaliya Ghata and from there everyone knows where it is located.
At Kaliya Ghata you go up the stairs next to the second tower. You
then walk straight for about 30m (100 feet) past a few houses. The
samadhi is just beyond a tree on your right, behind a small white
Siva-linga temple. It is about 35m from Kaliya Ghata. You cannot see
the samadhi from the parikrama path, but it is a good-sized samadhi.
