TThe Deities in this temple are the Gaura Nitai Deities
that were worshiped by Murari Gupta, one of Lord Caitanya’s
close associates. Murari Gupta’s name is engraved on the pedestal.
These Deities were worshiped by the descendants of Murari Gupta for
several generations, in the village of Sarkara Rayapura in West Bengal.
Eventually there was no one to worship these Deities.
An epidemic and malaria caused the village to be deserted. The temple
of Gaura Nitai fell apart and the Deities were covered by the debri.
Where the temple previously was situated became a cow field. Each
day one of the cows would go stand where the temple used to be and
would spray milk from its teats. The villager then came and dug at
this spot and they found the Deities.
A temple was constructed in Siuri for Gaura Nitai. Eventually
Balarama Dasa Babaji, from Orissa, began to serve these Deities. Then
Candrasasi Gosvamini, a young lady from the Mukhopadhyaya family,
landlords of the Delagrama district of Nadia, came. She started cooking
kshira for the Deities, after being initiated by Balarama Dasa Babaji.
She had a dream in which Gaura Nitai told her to take Them to Vrindavana.
Balarama Dasa Babaji and Candrasasi then went to Vrindavana with these
Gauri Nitai Deities. Eventually Candrasasi became known as Pishi Ma.
Pishi Ma Gosvamini served Sri Sri Gaura Nitai until she left her body,
when she was 106. Since these Deities were worshiped by Pishima Mataji,
that is how this temple got the name Pishima Gaura Nitai Temple.
How To Get Here This temple looks like
someone’s house from the outside. It is across from the Ban
Khandi Mahadeva Temple, close to the intersection where you turn to
go to Banke Bihari temple from Loi Bazaar. The entrance to this temple
is a few doors down from the intersection.
Temple Timings Darshan is 7.30 am to
12 noon and 4 to 8 pm.
