Suggested Day Outings
(Starting in Vrindavana)

Radha Kunda - It takes about 45 minutes to get to Radha Kunda. To put some water from Radha Kunda and Syama Kunda on your head and to visit a few places can be done in an hour. The return trip to Vrindavana takes 45 minutes. So a quick trip to Radha Kunda could take three hours. If you wanted to visit all the places mentioned in this book, which are at Radha Kunda, you could be at Radha Kunda for three hours or more.

Radha Kunda, Govardhana and Kusuma Sarovara - You could first visit Radha Kunda, and then go see Govardhana Hill, which would take about 45 minutes. You could then go to Kusuma Sarovara for a half hour. If you wanted to see the places in the town of Govardhana, for instance Mana Sarovara, the Harideva temple and Sanatana Gosvami bhajana kutir, this could take another hour.

Radha Kunda, Garuda Govinda Temple, Bahulavana, Mukharai, Konai (Konhai) and Surya Kunda - There are some places that can be visited, which are down some side roads that go off from the road between Vrindavana (Chatikara) and Radha Kunda. The Garuda Govinda Temple is about a half kilometre down a side road in Chatikara. Bahulavana, where this is the Bahula temple, is about 2½ km from the road. Mukharai, the village of Radharani’s grandmother, is just a kilometre from the main road. Surya Kunda is about 7km off the road. You pass the village of Konai on the way to Surya Kunda. To visit all these places, including Radha Kunda would take at least six hours.

Govardhana Parikrama - If you walk around Govardhana Hill without stopping anywhere it usually takes five to eight hours, depending on how fast you walk. If you stop at several places you could add another hour and a half. If you stop at all the places in this book (not the ones at Radha Kunda) for just a short time you could easily add another five hours to the walk.

Nandagram and Varsana - It takes about an hour to get to Nandagram or Varsana. You could spend half an hour at Varsana, if you just visit the main temple, or a few hours if you visit most of the places. Nandagram and Varsana are about a half hour apart. If you just went to the main temple in Nandagram it would take about a half hour. If you wanted to visit several places such as Pavana Sarovara, Vrinda Kunda, Yamuna Kunda, Ter Kadamba or the Narasimha temple you could easily be there three hours. It then takes about an hour to return to Vrindavana. This trip can take anywhere from four to eight hours.

Nandagram, Varsana, Uchagrama, Sanket, Prema Sarovara and Javat - All these places could be visited in one day, if you do it quickly. The length of time to visit Nandagram and Varsana is described above. The places at Uchagrama can take from a half hour and to an hour to visit. The places in Sanket can be visited in less than a half hour. Prema Sarovara is a bathing kunda between Varsana and Nandagram. At Javat, there is just one main temple, which can be visited in 10 minutes. To go to Uchagrama, Sanket, Prema Sarovara and Javat can add about three hours to the trip to Nandagram and Varsana.

Nandagram, Varsana, Govardhana, and Radha Kunda - This is an all day excursion, which would take seven or eight hours if you just visit a few places at each of these places. It takes about an hour to drive to Nandagram. You could then stay there for an hour seeing a few sites. You would then drive to Varsana, which takes about half an hour and stay there for an hour. It then takes about an hour to drive to Govardhana and you could stay there for a half hour. It then takes about 20 minutes to get to Radha Kunda and you could stay there for an hour. Then it takes about 45 minutes to return to Vrindavana. On this day trip you see many of the most important places all in one day.

Kamyavana - There are many places to see here. It takes about two hours to get to Kamyavana. To see the major places in town will take about two hours and to see Vyomasura’s cave, Bhojan Sthali, and Charan Pahari will take another three hours. Then it will take another two hours to return to Vrindavana. The total trip will take about eight hours. You could also stop quickly at Varsana or Nandagram on the return trip.

Gokula, Raval and Dauji - It takes about an hour to get to Raval. There is just one temple here, so you could stay here for just five minutes if you want. From Raval it takes about a half hour to get to Gokula (Mahavana). You could see most of the places at Gokula in an hour. If you want to take a bath in the Yamuna at Brahmanda Ghata, you can add another half hour or more. From Gokula you drive to Dauji, which takes about a half hour. There is the Dauji Temple and Ksira Sagar Kunda to visit here, which can be visited in less than a half hour. It then takes about an hour and a half to return to Vrindavana. Going at a fast pace you can visit all these places in about six hours.

Lohavana, Maan Sarovara, Bhandiravana, Bilvavana (Belvan) and Bhadravana - These places are all on the other side of the Yamuna. It takes about an hour to get to Lohavana. Everything there can be seen there in ten minutes. Then you could go to Maan Sarovara, which will take about a half hour. You could stay there for five minutes. From there it takes about half an hour to get to Bilvavana (Belvan). There is just one temple there; the Laksmi temple and this can be visited for five minutes. From there to Bhandiravana will take about twenty minutes. You can stay there from fifteen minutes. You can then go to Bhadravana forest, which will take about an hour to get to and visit. It takes about an hour and a half to return to Vrindavana from Bhadravana. You can see all these places and return to Vrindavana within six hours. If you really want to move fast and see the maximum places you could visit Gokula and Raval at the same time. This would add two or three hours to your trip.
Mathura - It takes about a half hour to get to Mathura. If you go to the major places in Mathura, such as Visrama Ghata and the place where Krishna appeared you could be back in Vrindavana in less than four hours. If you went to many places in this book you could be in Mathura from six to eight hours.

Madhuvana, Talavana, Kumudavana, Santanu Kunda and Bahulavana - These are places that most people do not normally visit. Madhuvana is where Dhruva Maharaja did austerities in Satya-yuga, and where Satrughna, the brother of Lord Rama, killed the demon Lavanasura in Treta-yuga. In the Talavana forest Balarama killed Dhenukasura. In the Kumudavana forest, on the bank of Padma Kunda, is a small temple dedicated to Lord Kapila, who performed austerities here during Treta-yuga. At Santanu Kunda, King Santanu performed austerities to get Bhismadeva as his son. At Bahulavana there is a small temple with Deities of Krishna, Yamaraja, and Bahula carved in the wall. To visit all these places will take at least five hours.

Sesa Sayi, Rama Ghata, Shergarh, Akshaya Vata, Chira Ghata, Tapovan, Nanda Ghata and Baigram - At Sesa Sayi there is the Sesa Sayi temple. Balarama, after going to Mathura with Krishna, returned from Mathura and stayed at Rama Ghata for two months. There is a small Dauji (Balarama) temple here. Shergarh is where Lord Balarama performed His rasa dance. At Akshaya Vata there is an ancient large banyan tree, which is said to have had the darshan of Krishna 5,000 years ago. Tapovan is where the gopis worshiped the goddess Katyayani Devi and prayed that Krishna would become their husband. Chira Ghata is where Krishna stole the gopis’ cloths. Baigram is the place where the servants of Varuna abducted Nanda Maharaja. Not many people come to these places because the road to these places is very bad. It is best to bring a jeep to visit these places. Depending on how many places you visit, it will take from six to nine hours to visit these places.
