Sri
Keshava Gaudiya Math
The presiding Deities in this temple are Radha Vinoda-bihari.
There is a Govardhana-shila, a Deity of Lord Caitanya and a murti
of Keshava Maharaja in this temple. This temple was established by
Srila Bhakti Prajnana Keshava Gosvami Maharaja. Keshava Maharaja named
this temple Sri Keshava Gaudiya Math in honor and glory of Keshavadeva,
the original Deity of Krishna in Mathura. Keshava Maharaja wanted
to establish a temple in Mathura, because he thought it would be a
good location to preach Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s message.
His Holiness Narayana Maharaja, who was a close associate
of Srila Prabhupada, heads this temple.
This is where His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami
Prabhupada took sannyasa from His Holiness Keshava Maharaja in September
1959. Srila Prabhupada stayed here for some time before taking sannyasa.
Srila Prabhupada donated the Deity of Lord Caitanya on the altar here.
In 1968 when Srila Prabhupada found out that Keshava Maharaja had
left his body he composed a Sanskrit verse in his honor.
vairagya vidya nija bhakti-yogam
apayayam mam anaviksham andham
sri keshava bhaktiprajnana anma
kripambudhir yas tamaham prapadye
In this verse Srila Prabhupada gives Sri Keshava Maharaja
credit for helping him to achieve knowledge and real renunciation
through devotional service. He also praises his sannyasa guru as being
an ocean of mercy who opened his eyes.
How To Get Here This temple is located
near the Rangesvara Mahadeva Temple and the Old Bus Stand (across
the street). The temple room is on a first floor (USA second floor).
You can see the temple towers on top of the right side of the building.
Temple Timings Darshan time is 9 am
to 12 pm and 5 to 8 pm.
