Govardhana
Hill Transport
Govardhana Hill is 26 km (14 miles)
west of Mathura. By car it takes about forty-five minutes to get to
Govardhana Hill from Vrindavana. As Govardhana Hill and Radha Kunda
are right next to each other, both can easily be visited on the same
trip. Between the town of Govardhana and Radha Kunda, Govardhana Hill
is not very high. It is higher after you past the town of Govardhana,
towards the tail end of Govardhana Hill. All the taxi drivers know
where to take you, so you can view Govardhana Hill.
From Vrindavana, the road to Govardhana Hill is bumpy,
and a motor rickshaw ride can be uncomfortable, so I would suggest
taking a taxi. Govardhana Hill is much too far to go to by bike rickshaw.
The cheapest way to get to the town of Govardhana is
to take a tempo (many) to the end of Bhaktivedanta Swami Marg (Chatikara
Road). From there you get another tempo to the town of Govardhana.
There are several direct buses to the town of Govardhana that can
be boarded in front of the ISKCON temple. One leaves around 6.10 am
(Rs 12). The same bus that goes to the town of Govardhana also goes
to Radha Kunda.
You can get a motor rickshaw for Rs 350 or a taxi for
Rs 600 round trip, which includes a two hours waiting time. You can
see Govardhana Hill and the places around Manasi Ganga in two hours.
If you are doing Govardhana parikrama and you are going
just one way, you could take a motor rickshaw for Rs 250 and a taxi
for Rs 500. After doing parikrama you can get a bus back to Vrindavana
from the town of Govardhana. You could also get a tempo to Chatikara
and from there get another tempo to Vrindavana. Some tempos go directly
from the town of Govardhana to Vrindavana.
