Lohavana Forest

Lohavana is where Jarasandha was defeated 18 times. There is the Radha Gopinatha Temple here on the bank of Krishna Kunda. There are several temples located at this place including Siva and Hanuman temples. It is said that Krishna would row the gopis across this lake (kunda) in a boat. Lohavana Forest has a circumference of 5km. Krishna used to tend cows in this forest.
In the Bhakti-ratnakara, Fifth Wave, it is stated “At Lohavana, Lord Krishna used to tend cows. The demon named Lohajangha was killed at this place.”

There is a cave here where the demon Lohasura (Lohajangha) lived. Krishna killed this demon. This cave is under the ground, inside a building, about 20m (65 ft) from both Krishna Kunda and the Radha Gopinatha Temple. The demon Lohasura is represented by the red sandstone legs located in front of a low mound. Only the legs are what remain of a broken statue. Behind the legs on the mound is a hut where the cave is located, which is named Saptarishi Kuandara, after the seven great sages.

Krishna Kunda is basically in the middle of nowhere, next to the small village of Lohavana (Lohban). Not many people visit this place.
Between the forest of Lohavana and the town of Baldeo is the Bandi Anandi Temple of Yoga Maya.

How To Get Here This forest is 5km from Mathura, on the other side of the Yamuna. This place can be visited while going to Gokula. Krishna Kunda is a km off the road (Baldev Marg), which goes between Baldeo and Mathura. If you just went over the bridge that goes over the Yamuna River in Mathura, you continue straight on the main road for about 1½ km. You then make a right onto Baldev Marg (the road to Gokula).

After a km, you then make a left to the village of Lohavana. When you come to a fork in the road, going through the village, you take the left road. The road ends at Krishna Kunda. To get here you first ask for the village of Lohavana (Lohban) and when you get to Lohavana, you then ask for Krishna Kunda or the Radha Gopinatha Mandir.
