thali type place with almost no business. There are a few simple restaurants
and street stands in town.
Badrinath (Badarik-ashram)
There is a group of good restaurants at the main intersection in town,
near the bridge that crosses the river to the temple. The best of these
places seemed to be the Kwality Restaurant, but the Vijay

at the Saket are good. All the places here seem to be pure vegetarian.

Moonlight Restaurant, Laksman Jhula serve high quality
Continental, Meixcan, Israeli and Ayurvedic food. The owner is extremely
helpful for answering question on the local area. Pleaant atmosphere
and very good food.

is run by a friendly Italian woman and her husband. This place has good
Italian food and salads, but it is not cheap. Recommended.
Ganga Darshan Restaurant, Laksman Jhula, across from Bombay Kshetra,
has South Indian food and cheap thalis (Rs 20).
Ganga View, near by Laksman Jhula, has a nice terrace overlooking
the Ganges. The food is fairly good and it is a good place to meet people.

For a much greater list of vegetarian-friendly restaurants in this
state, you can purchase Spiritual Guides India, Temples and Holy
Places, A Practical Guide on the right from Amazon.com. There is
also a great deal of information in this book on temples, holy places,
palaces, wildlife parks, museums, forts, beaches and other tourist places.
There is also an excellent spiritual information section, and a detailed
list of hotels, restaurants and travel information. We believe this
book to be by far the best practical guide about India, and is definitely
worth purchasing. The words meat, fish or eggs are not mentioned in
this book accept to warn against them.
