Hubli Pop: 730,000 Area Code: 0836 Hubli is a major railway junction for trains going to Goa, Mumbai, and northern Karnataka. The Kannada Research Institute Museum at Karnataka University displays sculptures, ancient manuscripts, and an interesting painting of Nataraja. Most
of the hotels are near the railway station. The bus station is a fifteen-minute
walk from the railway station. Where
to Eat Train
The booking office is open daily 8 am to 8 pm. There are usually two
daily express trains to Mumbai and Bangalore. There are express trains
to Hospet (for Hampi) at 10 am and 4.30 pm. To get to Bijapur, you take
a train to Gadag (1½ hr, same train that goes to Hospet), then
take another train from there. Bus
There are regular buses to Bangalore (9 hr) and Hospet (4 hr). KSRTC
(five daily) and Goa Kadamba bus company (five daily, Gate #10) buses
go to Goa daily. There are also buses to Mumbai (15 hr), Mangalore (10
hr), Jog Falls, Gokarna, Mysore (10 hr), and Bijapur.
Belgaum Belgaum was the capital of the local area in the 12th and 13th century. The Masjid-Sata Mosque (1519) is one of the most interesting mosques in town. There are also a few interesting Jain temples. Where
