Most travelers come to xe "Gulbarga"Gulbarga for a railway connection. Gulbarga was the Bahmani capital until 1347, when the capital was moved to Bidar. After the Bahmani kingdom broke up, Gulbarga became the capital of one of the five kingdoms into which it split up into. Aurangzeb eventually took control ot it. There is no place to change money here.

What to See
Located here is a ruined fort with 15m wide walls. Inside the fort is the Jama Masjid (14th century), a beautiful mosque with graceful domes.

Located in the Dargah is the tomb of Hazrat Gesu Naraz (1320-1422), which is a beautiful mausoleum. He was the spiritual teacher of some of the Bahmani rulers.

There are also tombs of past Bahmani rulers located here.

Where to Stay and Eat
There are Retiring Rooms at the railway station for Rs 100 for a double and Rs 150 with A/C. Dorm beds are Rs 50 and Rs 70 in an A/C room.
KSTDC Mayura Bahmani (20644), off Station Rd, has rooms with bath and hot water in the morning for Rs 250/300. Sometimes there is no water at night. This place is best avoided.
Sanman Hotel (22801), off Station Rd, has clean rooms with bath for Rs 160/225 and Rs 300/350 for a room with a TV. It is a good value and is well-managed.
Raj Rajeshwari (25881), Vasant Nagar, Mill Rd, five minutes from the bus stand, is a modern place with rooms with a balcony for Rs 400/500. It has a vegetarian restaurant.
Hotel Aditya (24040) has comfortable rooms with bath and hot water in the morning for Rs 300/350 and Rs 550 with A/C. It has a good, clean vegetarian restaurant. Recommended.
Santosh (22661; fax 231-991), Bilgundi Gardens, University Rd, is a well-managed, peaceful place with comfortable room for Rs 300/350 and Rs 400/500 with A/C. It is inconveniently located.
Pariwar (21522; fax 22060) has rooms for Rs 250/325 and Rs 550/650. It is a good value. It has a good South Indian restaurant. This hotel is often booked. It is best to reserve it in advance.

Travel
There are trains to Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Bangalore.

There are regular buses to Bijapur, Hospet, and Bidar. There are night buses to Hyderabad and Bangalore.
