Air
The airport here may or may not be open because of tension with Paksitan,
as this place is near the border. Crown Tours (251912;
Email: crown@jp1.dot.net.in), 300m west of Amar Sagar Gate opposite
the District Magistrate, is the Indian Airlines agent.
Train
To get to Jaisalmer by train you first have to go to Jodhpur. The reservation
office at the railway station is open Mon to Sat 10 am to 1 pm and 2
to 4 pm, and Sun 10 am to 1 pm.
There
is a day train to Jodhpur (10 hr, 195km). There is a night train, the
Jaisalmer-Jodhpur Exp #4809 at 10.30 pm (6½ hr).
Bus
Buses usually start at the local bus station at the traffic circle near
Amar Sagar Gate, and then go to the main bus terminal. It pays to board
the bus at the local bus station rather than the main bus station in
order to get a seat. The main bus terminal 251541) is a few km from
the center of town, near the railway station. You can reserve a bus
seat with one of the travel agencies or at your hotel. The buses to
Jodhpur (6½ hr, Rs 80) are four seats across and if you do not
reserve a seat in advance there is a good chance you will not get one.
It is a long trip to be standing up.
There
are several buses to Bikaner (8 hr, Rs 100). There are buses to Udaipur
(14 hr), Mt Abu (12 hr), Ajmer (12½ hr), Pushkar (13 hr), Jaipur
(14 hr), Bikaner (8 hr, 5 daily), Ahmedabad (12 hr) and Barmer (3½
hr, Rs 45).
