Where to Eat—In Fort
8th July Restaurant, above the main square, is a good veg (with eggs) place with a big menu. It is a very interesting place to sit and watch the world go by, as you have a great view of the square. Jag Mohan, who helps manage the restaurant, is a good guy. They have mashed potato with cheese, baked beans, spaghetti, apple pie, Indian preparations, and pizza. Recommended. There is also an A/C branch of the 8th July in the town below the fort.
Surya Restaurant is a well-managed veg (with eggs) place with good food and atmosphere. The restaurant is located just above the wall of the fort, therefore, you can get some great views of the city and you can look out at endless desert. Recommended.
Ristorante Italiano La Puressa, Vyasapara St, has exclllent Italian food and great views. The pizza can take a long time to make so you don't want to be in a hurry.
Refreshing Point Rooftop Restaurant has Indian, Italian, Mexican, Chinese and Tibetan. It has a German Bakery and is popualar.
Vyas Meal Service, upstairs near the Jain Temples, is a family-run veg restaurant. It has traditional Jaisalmer cuisine, which includes a good Rajasthani thali for Rs 50. The fancy thali for Rs 100 includes a rice dish with dry fruits and nuts, puris and yogurt.

Where to Eat—In Town
There are several rooftop restaurants near the entrance to the fort.
The rooftop Hotel Fort View Restaurant has a very good view of the fort.
Next door is the rooftop Mid Town Restaurant, which has Rajasthani thalis for Rs 50.
Down a small road is the Kanchan Shree Restaurant, which has 20 different types of lassis. The chocolate banana lassis are good.
Monica Restaurant, close to the gate of the fort, is a good rooftop restaurant that has good thalis.
Further down the road is the Natraj Restaurant, which is a little higher class with good food. From the top floor you have a good view of the top floor of the Salim Singh ki Haveli next door.
Moti Mahal, opposite Salim Singh ki Haveli, has good vegetarian breakfasts. It is a good value.
There are several restaurants near Amar Sagar Gate.
Jaisal Palace (252717; 400450; behind the royal palace, has a good vegetarian restaurant on the roof, which has good views of the fort. It is a little hard to find.
The Trio is a long established place with upmarket prices. Musicians play here at night.
Skyroom Restaurant, on top of an old haveli above the State Bank of India, is also an upmarket place.
Kalpana Restaurant, Amar Sagar Gate, is a popular place that serves Indian, Chinese and Continental food.
Top Deck is also good.
Gorbandh Palace has a good high-class restaurant with buffet breakfasts (Rs 200), lunch (Rs 350), and dinner (Rs 450). It also has individual dishes.
