Anjuna
German Bakery, a ten-minute walk from the beach, serves good cakes, breads, salads, juices (including wheat grass and carrot), and herbal teas. It has a good vegetarian restaurant with Western and Indian preparations. The vegetable pulao is very good. Main preps are about Rs 40 to Rs 60. Recommended.
Orgasmic, near Oxford Stores, is an excellent vegetarian Tibetan restaurant, serving both Tibetan and Indian foods, brown rice, sandwiches (including avocado and cheese sandwiches), various herbal teas, and fresh fruit juices. A pleasant place, it also has an shop selling brown rice, organic noodles, books, classical Indian music, and natural medicines.
Whole Bean is a vegetarian restaurant serving tofu burgers and avocado salads.
There is a restaurant serving Israeli food with a good sound system near the main bus junction across from Starco. Recommended.

Calangute
The vegetarian Plantain Leaf, near the petrol station, about half a km from the beach, is a good, inexpensive vegetarian restaurant. It is a big place and is popular with the locals.

Margao (Madgaon)
Udipi Vegetarian Restaurant is also good.
The clean, inexpensive vegetarian Kamat Hotel, next to Municipal Gardens, serves South Indian food and meals for Rs 20. There are a couple more branches in town.
The restaurant in the Milan Hotel, Station Rd, has good Indian vegetarian meals.
Bombay Cafe is a popular inexpensive vegetarian place.

Panaji (Panjim)
The popular Vihar, 32 Janeiro Rd, is a very good South Indian vegetarian restaurant, serving dosas, puris, wadas, and thalis for Rs 30.
Satkar, 18 June Rd, is a good, clean South Indian vegetarian place. The same people manage this place and Vihar, and the service at both is quick and efficient.
Rangoli, Ormuz Rd, near Cine National, has good vegetarian Gujarati thalis for Rs 40. Open 11 am to 3 pm and 7 to 10 pm.

Vasco da Gama
Annapurna, Hotel Annapurna, Dattatreya Deshpande Rd, is an inexpensive, pure vegetarian South Indian and North Indian thali place.

There is also a great deal of information in this book on temples, holy places, palaces, wildlife parks, museums, forts, beaches and other tourist places. There is also an excellent spiritual information section, and a detailed list of hotels, restaurants and travel information. We believe this book to be by far the best practical guide about India, and is definitely worth purchasing. The words meat, fish or eggs are not mentioned in this book accept to warn against them.
