Herbal Potions for Love and Peace

The following Rainforest cocktails are a few of my guests’ favorites, and are credited with amazing results.

Maca Pleasure
1-2 Tbs. Sumacazon*
6-8 oz. rice or soy milk
Serve on ice

Sumacazon Smoothie
2 tsp. Sumacazon*
3 strawberries
2 dates
8 oz. almond milk
a handful of blueberries
Blend until smooth,
Serve on crushed ice

Maca, (Lepidium Meyenii) is most famous for its libido enhancing properties for both men and women. Also known as Peruvian Ginseng, Maca has been highly revered throughout history. A staple food of the Incas, it grows only in the Andes mountains in Peru at an elevation of nine to ten thousand feet. As a root growing in mineral rich soil, Maca is loaded with nutrients. It is known for increasing energy, stamina, muscle tone, and mental clarity.
At harvest time in August a large Maca festival is held to celebrate the fertility of the earth, the Maca harvest, and life in the highlands. For three days and three nights highlanders sing, dance and enjoy every Maca dish and beverage imaginable.

Muira pauma (Ptychopetalum uncinatum) has a long history in herbal medicine as an aphrodisiac, a tonic for the nervous system, and a natural remedy for impotence. Also called “potency wood”, Muira puama is a bush or small tree that grows up to 5 meters high, and is native to the Brazilian Amazon. The small white flowers have a pungent fragrance, similar to jasmine. The indigenous tribes in Brazil use the roots and bark as a tea for treating sexual debility and to prevent baldness. It is also invigorating used in baths and massages.

Kava kava, (Piper methysticum) is famous for creating goodwill among parties who have been at odds with one another. Traditionally, tribal members used Kava to soothe tensions and improve relations at important meetings. Used ceremonially for thousands of years by Pacific Islanders, Kava induces a state of relaxation, tranquility, and sharpening of the senses. Thus it has always been the beverage of choice for honored guests and social gatherings.

Kava’s dramatic properties come from its Kavalactones, which have been known to relieve anxiety while increasing mental clarity, focus, memory and brain function. Kava also relaxes muscles, reduces inflammation, and is one of the best herbs known for pain
