Skin Care
The lifestyle of a person can dramatically affect the quality of a person's skin. Both what a person puts on their skin and what they eat can affect the skin quality.

Proper skin care habits and preventative treatments can delay many of the aging factors of the skin and help keep the skin young and beautiful.

A good cleansing system should remove the makeup and dirt on the skin but should not damage the skin or protective oil. It is best to not use harsh soaps or detergents. Using unhealthy soaps can increase the aging process of the skin and cause premature wrinkles.

Skin Layers
The outermost level of the skin is the epidermis (also known at the cuticle) and is the protective layer of the skin. It is made up of cells that are packed tightly together and are shed continuously. There is a totally new cuticle layers every 28 days, but it is believed that this time becomes longer as a person becomes older.

The second layer of the skin is the dermis. It is also know as the "true skin" as much of the main functions of the skin is performed here. Located here are glands that secrete perspirations and sebum (oil). It is also called the 'true skin' because most of the vital functions of the skin are performed or housed here. It contains the glands that secrete perspiration and sebum (oil), the papilla (hair manufacturing), nerve fibers, blood vessels, lymph glands and sense receptors. The dermis has an elastic quality that is due to the protein connective tissues called elastin and collagen. They allow for strength as well as flexibility.

Below the dermis is the third layer called the subcutaneous layer. It is made of a fatter tissue that gives the body smoothness and contour and serves as a shock absorber for the vital organs. In addition, it stores energy and is an insulator for the body.

Unbroken, the skin is our first line of defense against disease and bacterial invasion. It regulates body temperatures, sends neurological messages to the brain, detoxifies by excreting wastes from the body, respirates (absorbs oxygen and releases carbon dioxide), absorbs nutrients, manufactures vitamin D and protects the body from ultra violet damage from the sun. Fundamental skin care recognizes that the skin is our largest vital organ and it requires care and attention to look its best and to maintain peak performance.

Negative Effect of Over-Cleansing The Skin
Over-cleansing can also harm the skins. This can be caused by washing the skin too much relative to the particular skin type or using a cleanser hat contains too harsh or unhealthy ingredients. Over-cleansing can be damaging to the skin because it can strip away the natural skin oils which are a natural protection for the skin. This can cause the skin to be too dry and cause irritation.

Best Skin Cleansers
Often the best skin cleansers are cleansing milks which as a combination of water and oil mixed together in a proper balance which can clean both the water and oil soluble dirt properly but is not over abrasive to the skin.

Skin Around the Eyes
The skin around the eyes usually shows the first sign of aging because it is more delicate .The skin around the eyes has less oil and sweat gland which keep the skin in better condition.

Many experts suggest that when putting on make-up in the eye area to pat them on so as not to stretch the skin tissue there. It is a good idea to protect the eye area from the sun and to wear sunglasses that protect against ultraviolet rays large enough to protect the skin around the eyes.

When you rub your eyes this can stretch the skin which may cause the orbital fit it hermate and cause bags.

Collagen
Collagen is a dermal protein. It is a fibrous type substance that holds the body together. Collagen makes up about one-third of the protein in the body and about 10% of the connective tissue. When the skin gets wrinkles, inelastic and dry, this is because the collagen gets cross-linked which is the aging process of the skin’s protein, which is similar to the tanning of leather.

It is believed that collagen can be replenished by adding soluble collagen in a cream product. It is believed that how the collagen will be absorbed depends on how the cream is made. Collagen is usually derived from beef products, which is very bad and if it actually does work the benefit are dearly paid for. Synthetic preservatives and too much alcohol added to a product can make collagen products not work properly.

Young skin contains flexible collagen and is mostly non-cross-linked, which is known as “soluble collagen.” Soluble collagen can easily absorb moisture and therefore swells easily. As the skin ages it becomes cross-linked and is know as “insoluble collagen. It does not absorb water as well and becomes more inelastic.

As the skin becomes more inelastic this cause wrinkles and lines to form in the skin, mainly in the areas that are exposed to light such as the face, neck and back of the hands. As the skin becoming more inelastic it causes alterations in the collagen and the elastin (dermal protein in the artery walls and the dermis).

Best to Use Proper Applicators to Put on Makeup
If you use tissues or toilet paper to apply make-up, as they are made of wood they may irritate the skin, so it may be a good idea not to use them.

Why it is best to use products that do not contain artificial chemicals, color and preservatives on the skin?
As much research has shown that there are many question marks about these ingredients in general using natural products with artifical coloring and preservatives is almost always an advisable option.

Why vegetarian should be very careful of what they put on their body? As the skin is the largest organ in the body whatever it is put on it is absorbed into the body. As many common soaps, cosmetics, massage oil and make-up contain animal products as the skin absorbs into the body what is put onto it.
